We sat down with the lovely Cherise Couri aka “The LiV Girl” (or “Livity” as we like to call her) to get an update on her health, post surgery recovery and what’s next for the LiV movement.
As you may know by now Cherise is a 19 year old cancer survivor who started the movement last year. What started as a simple fund- raiser for her liver surgery ballooned into a whole movement. The LiV Movement has not just benefitted Cherise but has also helped and will continue to help other young people with cancer.
Cherise had successful liver surgery on March 25th this year and was out of the hospital 3 days later. No stranger to going under the knife, having had surgery when she was just 18 months old, the strength and poise she displayed through the whole process was amazing. I remember when I visited her in hospital the day after her surgery, she could still muster the energy to laugh, even though it hurt to do so. She’s a true fighter! Her recovery involved being “down” for two weeks while she healed. Not being able to walk or eat much was a challenge for someone as active as her and while it was frustrating at times she pushed past those challenges and kept a positive attitude throughout.
On May 1st Cherise returned to her doctor for a post surgery check up and received a clean bill of health, smiling from ear to ear as she told us the good news. Her focus now shifts back to the LiV Movement. While work has never really stopped, she was not as involved as she wanted to be, for obvious reasons, and was eager to get back on the job full-time.
Next up for the LiV Movement would be a press conference to announce their plans going forward. Cherise hinted toward another event in the works for this summer so told us to keep an ear out for that. When asked about the negativity and criticism the Movement received leading up to and after the LiV Concert she had this to say, “I pay them no mind, I will just keep doing what I do. You can’t please everyone and if they are going to dislike me or LiV for trying to do something positive then so be it. Better they hate for that than for something negative.”
I also asked her how she planned to spend her summer. Smiling again she said “people forget I’m still a teenager. I want to do the same things any other 19 year old girl wants to do. I plan to “LiV” it up to the fullest!”“So you plan to be in SCORCH _UCK WORK on the 29?” we asked, “Most DEF! I already have my ticket!” she exclaimed.
Look out for more updates on the LiV Movement from time to time.
