Facebook Gets Hashtags – NOOOOOOOO!!!

In a move that would most certainly annoy the hell out of anyone with an ounce of sense, Facebook has decided to adopt hashtags.

For those of you living under a rock, it’s also called pound ‘#’ and it appears frequently and albeit annoyingly on other social media sites. Most annoying of all being Instagram.

Facebook wants to make it easier for users to find content already on Facebook, hashtags are the first step. They went on to say that many users already post (abuse) hashtags anyway, so why not make them work. They already rolled it out to a small percentage of users today (Wednesday) and will continue to roll out hashtags to more users in the coming weeks.

Hashtags in essence serve a reliable purpose, but most Trinis we know on Instagram abuse said purpose. For example if you wanted to see everyone who went to #DuckWork, just search the hashtag and voila. You’ll find fresh content containing every tweet or pic with that tag. However, some people take it too. DAMN. FAR. How you ask?? By over-hashtagging: #instagood #me #cute #photooftheday #beautiful #bikini #instamood #bestoftheday and on and on till the intended purpose of the post gets lost and it turns into visual noise.

Oh, and on that note… #selfies are WACK and furthermore no man should ever, EVER, post a #selfie.
