What does dating mean to Trinis? We’ve always seemed to classify dating as an American term for what we call ‘having a _uck buddy’ or as we like to call it ‘in ting’. Regardless, for one reason or the other, us trinis for some reason hate the use of that wretched D word and always seem to come up with our own terms and definitions. In recent times, though, we’ve been seeing more and more variations of people who aren’t just friends, _uck buddies or a couple. Here at SCORCH, we like to refer to these hybrid relationships as a ‘SITUATIONSHIP’ and here’s how you know you’re in one:
- You definitely not going out to romantic dinners together, but yuh doh mind rolling to a lil’ SCORCH or Tribe party with her.
- Everyone is sorta kinda confused as to what y’all really are…?
- There are no public displays of affection, other than in the bedroom.
- Yuh not quite sure you want to be with that person, but you can tolerate their existence for the time-being.
- You never post them as your #MCM or #WCW.
- If one of you decides to go yuh way, yuh could sleep easy knowing no public drama is going to follow.
- You tote a lil’ feelings whenever they say they’re unavailable, act dismissive about it then call your friends and get drunk. Needless to say, you’re texting the “situation” at 2am calling them a _unt.
- If one catches the other in a wrong stand up, the other quickly retorts, “We not together! How I hornin’ you?!” You give each other the silent treatment then during your next sexual rendezvous, _uck angrier and louder than Lurbz eating a nanz.
- For the most part, you’re both quite happy being in the friendzone…until the sun sets.
