Support circles..
Another good week under the belt for Chris.
His dedication to training has been impressive as I know he has had his doubters. It is very easy for one to fall off the metaphorical wagon. We all do at some point. Yes, even the trainers. In my case, the ability to maintain a direct or specific shortened workout has saved me in periods of ‘falling off’ from falling completely flat. So that falling off for each of us is quite relative. Chris makes it to training even when late and that is to be commended. It is quite easy to say if he was more dedicated that he won’t be late, but many persons use being late to cop out completely from a session. Something is always better than nothing.
Progress Notes: Chris’ movement continues to be his most notable improvement coupled with his increased ability to survive sessions without feeling like he has been hit by a truck. He now gets further into his work intervals without stopping. Having said this, an interesting observation could be added this week. Chris’ posture is noticeably improved in general as well as while executing his exercises. This is a positive for his long term overall health but would also suggest an improvement through his “core”. This area will be an ongoing area of focus and coupled with attention to flexibility in order to give the all round improvement that Chris will require in order to achieve his overall health and aesthetic goals.
Bumps: One of the major challenges anyone attempting to make the fit and healthy lifestyle conversion is their support circle. Chris is soon going to hit those bumps on the journey where he questions himself, where starts to want to miss sessions or even starts missing sessions. The people surrounding Chris can make or break his journey. Have you got the right people around you? Will your people encourage you to change or facilitate the lapses? Be honest with yourself and surround yourself with people who will positively affect your journey. That is not just your fitness journey, but also your life journey. Your support circle can define you.
Exercise of the Week: Stair Intervals. Chris was exposed to Stair Intervals this week at Jean Pierre Complex. This was made up of getting to the top of the selected flight of stairs as quickly as possible, with a steady walk back down. This was repeated a pain staking five times. This challenged a few components of fitness: strength, power and aerobic capacity.
Tip of the Week: From Manz: People are generally visual. Post pictures in your room, on your fridge, by your desk at work or places where it will be a constant reminder of what you are striving to achieve. This can be a physique, a place to visit or simply the type of food you should be eating. This keeps your eye on the prize. Till next time….
