A recent study by a French University confirmed what we already held as fact; women dig musicians. What was really interesting about the study was their other findings, but we will get to that soon enough.

Researchers from the University of South Brittany sent a 20-year-old man to a mall, where he asked 300 women for their number. He approached the first 100 holding a gym bag, the next 100 holding a guitar case and the third 100 holding nothing.

31% of The women gave the guy their number when he had the guitar case , 14% gave out their numbers when the guy held nothing at all, and last place? Sorry meat heads, but it was the sports bag with 9 %.

It’s just a hunch, but the guitar being the “winner” must have something to do with a musician seeming like a gentler, more perceptive and intellectual presence. Now women are already very weary of strangers, especially beautiful women. A musician might have come off differently. She may have thought to herself “He’s a guitarist or the artsy type, you don’t really come across them everyday, might as well give him my number” or he just seemed less of the “stalkerish” / creepy type when he held a guitar… who knows!

The French researchers attribute these findings to the fact that playing a musical instrument is a sign that the man is intelligent, can learn, or is willing to learn, new skills and has independent hobbies.

The study also shows how we subconsciously judge others without giving it a second thought. I can’t help but wonder if the guy could even play guitar. *shrugs*

So guys, next time you get shutdown , don’t take it to heart — maybe it was just because you didn’t have a guitar… or because you had a gym bag!
