If you’re a techie by now you should have at least heard about Facebook Home. After months or maybe years of a rumored Facebook phone being in the works Zuck and the crew held a press conference yesterday (4th April 2013) to officially launch their new um… app… err… um operating system… um … in fact let me use Zuckerbergs exact words.
“We’re not building a phone and we’re not building an operating system,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Thursday. “But we’re also building something that’s a whole lot deeper than just another app.
Hmmm where have I heard this before? … Prob in every Sale pitch EVER!!!!
All kicks aside we decided to do a ‘write up’ on what we know so far about this new … (I’m not sure what to call it)… Lets call it a “SUPER APP” for now
Facebook Home? Wais dahhhh?
Home is a “group of apps” that essentially pushes Facebook content front and center on your Android phone. (Oh by the way it’s going to be exclusive to Android phones.)
So for instance, you swipe to unlock your Galaxy Siii, instead of seeing your normal lock screen or home screen you will be greeted by what they are calling your “cover feed”. The cover feed like your FB news feed would have Images and posts from friends will appear as the background. From here you can like or comment as you please of just scroll through and macco as is the norm without having to open up the actual FB app.
Appart from this there is also a feature called “Chat Heads” which basically intergrates FB messenger with your phone’s SMS text messaging. Messages pop up regardless of what you have running on the phone at the time, along with the sender’s profile picture, enclosed in a little circle.
I already envision how this will put people in place. I could see it now! GF: “babe lemmi borrow your phone to call my mommy na” … You: “Okay here” … GF: *holds phone and sees random message from Mary Sue* … the message reads “how you going hottnes?” *cue instant rab*. I know for sure it have a few guys and gals out there who already wants nothing to do with this “SUPER APP”, but i will reserve full judgement until it becomes available to select android phone users on the 16 of April.
